Threads – non-surgical lifting, can it replace surgery?

This treatment is known as non-surgical lifting and treats minor to moderate sagging of the skin mainly of the face but also other areas of the body such as the hands, thighs, buttocks.

It is a bloodless method, minimally invasive, which can be done in the doctor’s office, usually with a little local anesthesia. It does not require any special recovery except that one should avoid intense movements for the first twenty-four hours to get the best aesthetic result.

There are two types of threads, those that cause lifting and those that act by creating a mesh around the area where they have been placed.

The most common areas in which they are used are areas of the eyebrow, the oval of the face, the cheeks and the neck. However, they can also be used on the arms, chest, inner thighs, abdomen and buttocks.

Usually the threads are absorbed within 6 months, but the aesthetic result continues to improve because the maximum production of collagen around the thread is achieved in three months.

They usually last a year and a half depending on the type of thread used. The process can then be repeated.

After this treatment, intense movements should be avoided for the first twenty-four hours. There may still be swelling in the area or small bruises which will disappear in a few days.

What is important to make clear before this treatment is that threads cannot replace surgical lifting . They work well for mild relaxation but cannot provide the same stretching as lifting. There are also cases where they cannot be applied, such as on very thin skin.
