Cypriot surgeon, Dr Georgia Koulermou, was honoured with an award at the International Breast Conference 2022, held recently in London.
Koulermou, a board-certified cosmetic, reconstructive and oncoplastic surgeon, was awarded for her own technique, called “Triple Flap”, which combines breast lift and nipple-preserving mastectomy.
“This procedure reduces complications and at the same time the mastectomy gives an aesthetic breast lift,” said Koulermou.
The technique, considered an innovation in mastectomy, is designed to be effective for cases where the breasts are large.
According to a press release, this is the first achievement in the medical literature, since previously there was no technique to preserve the nipple in such cases.
Koulermou presented and described her award-winning technique six years ago and has published it in international scientific journals.
